Battle of Io occurred shortly after General Hague's failed coup against President Morgan Clark.

General Hague had been planning clandestinely to overthrow President Clark for months, but the proclamation of martial law forced him to act. After a meeting with a sympathizer in Orion VII, knowing that he would be captured, General Hague attempted an unsuccessful counter-insurgency. After this coup failed, he tried to escape the Sol System with only five Omega-class destroyers loyal to Hague.
The ships arrived at the Io Jump Gate transfer point, but was intercepted by a Clark-loyal fleet. Two of the Hague's ships, the EAS Excalibur and EAS Schwarzkopf, were damaged protecting Hague's own flagship, the EAS Alexander. At the end, only the Alexander was able to escaped. All other ships were destroyed or captured.[1]
