The Babylon Project

The term first contact describes the first official encounter between representatives of two races.

History[]

During the First contact between the Earth Alliance and the Minbari Federation, a misunderstanding caused by the recklessness and arrogance of both the Minbari Warrior Caste and human Captain Michael Jankowski resulted in the death of Dukhat, leader of the Minbari, swift retribution on behalf of the Minbari, and the beginning of the Earth-Minbari War.[1]

In March 2257 a Tikar vessel made first contact with the Earth Alliance Starship EAS Agamemnon, under the command of Captain John Sheridan, in unknown space near the Saint Andre Nebula. The Tikar quickly deciphered the English language, but waited for the humans to decipher their language before conversing. Later they invited Sheridan aboard their ship for two days. Sheridan would later describe the Tikar as unlike any other alien race he had encountered.[2]

In 2258, Babylon 5 experienced a first contact scenario when the first Soul Hunter encountered by Earthforce came through the jumpgate. This set off a chain of events wherein the species that had experience with the hunters began abandoning the station en masse, and Commander Sinclair was barely in time to save the life - and the soul - of Ambassador Delenn.[3] This was far from the first close call the station had, as an Ikarran War Machine began stomping through the levels, intent on eradicating all that was "impure".[4]

In 2267, first contact was made with three "visitors" by the Excalibur. Two of them, Durkani and Lyssa were trying to encounter Humans in deep space, to finally reveal the conspiracy to their population. Gideon offers to hear his story that humans have been interfering with their world. Durkani, hearing his words, believes that the captain really doesn't know about any interference.[5]
