The Babylon Project

History[]

Herazade was a techno-mage, one of The Circle.[1] Federico was Herazade's apprentice.[2] Unlike many of her fellow techno-mages, Herazade did not engage in many of their more ascetic practices. She did not scour her head and body hair and was more open to ties with non-mages. She espoused a philosophy of service, believing that because the mages were among the most powerful factions in the galaxy, their abilities should be devoted to helping non-mages improve their quality of life.

At the beginning of the techno-mage trilogy, Herazade was the youngest member of the Circle, After the deaths of Burell and Isabelle and the discovery of rogue techno-mages on Brensil IV, Kell disclosed to The Circle that he had prior knowledge of the Shadows returning as well as his part in Elizar's deception. On December 31, 2258, Kell resigned his position as head of the order.

With only four remaining members in the Circle, an important vote took place at the end of 2258 to decide the techno-mages' future. Herazade believed victory against the Shadows was impossible. She dismissed allying themselves with the Vorlons, asserting that would make their Order a direct target for the Shadows and their allies. She then voted to send the techno-mages into hiding, to weather the coming war.

The arduous path to the mages' self-imposed exile near the Rim thinned the Circle to the point where, as of January 2261, she was the only living member of the Circle who was present at the December 2258 convocation on Soom. After the end of the Shadow War, she was the oldest member of the Circle at age fifty-six.
