The Milky Way was a barred spiral galaxy that had a diameter usually considered to be roughly 100,000 to 120,000 light-years. The Milky Way as estimated to contain 100 to 400 billion stars, although this number may be as high as one trillion.
The Milky Way contains all sectors of known space up to and including the the Rim of known galactic space.[1]
The older races, or First Ones, have traveled beyond the Rim into the void between galaxies.[2]
