The Mindriders are one of the First Ones, who came to the Younger Races aid at the Battle of Coriana VI using their ship the Thoughtforce.[1]

Biology[]

The Mindriders were once physical beings like a majority of races in the galaxy, but eons ago, they shed their corporeal forms to become beings of pure thought in the event they call "The Great Birth." They consider their new state of existence to be an entirely different species from what they were before. Uniquely, they are the only race to become energy beings before discovering Hyperspace and were the first to do so. As incorporeal beings, they were capable of sharing thoughts between each other instantaneously and were powerful telepaths. They were capable of telekinesis, energy projection, limited precognition, possession and more.

The Mindriders, as energy beings, could exist within the vacuum of space, but found it extremely uncomfortable, so elected to create "ships" to travel through space. They however used no technology. Their ships are merely hollow shells constructed telekinetically from compressed carbon molecules for their forms to exist within. As such, through their psychic powers alone, they were capable of emulating the functions of starships. Components like Jump Drives, ship-grade weapons (Telekinetic Cutters and Mental Pulsars), engines (telekinetic locomotion), and defenses (Thought Shields) were all a result of a ship's collective of Mindriders' psychic powers working together.[2]

Overview[]

After "The Great Birth," the Mindriders spent centuries traveling across their planet with a lust for knowledge and discovery. They were hungry to learn, and in attempt to sate that hunger, the Mindriders as a collective species knew each other intimately to the point there was nothing new to discover on their world. With nothing new to learn at home, they turned to the stars and went to explore the galaxy. Deeply philosophical and filled with an anxiety to learn, they spent millennia communing with the other First Ones, learning all they could from the other Transcended races. But their hunger could not be sated. Some left for beyond the rim. Some decided to explore the greatest mystery, death. The rest turned towards the Younger Races. Which is where the moniker Mindrider comes from.

To learn all they could from the Younger Races, of their culture and history, they decided upon a grand mind-hosting experiment. The Mindriders would hide within the minds of the younger races, hiding in their psyche as a silent observer, watching and learning as the unaware host went along with their life. The Mindriders would learn all about the Younger Races across the galaxy, and every so often would come together to share all they learned. They did this for countless years, but as time went on, more and more of them left for beyond the rim, until the time of the last Shadow War saw them fully depart from the galaxy with Lorien and the other First Ones.[2]
