The Streibs are a race of aliens who abduct people of different species and perform experiments on them.
History
Just prior to 2258, the techno-mage Burell noted a large increase in traffic through her usually quiet planet Zafran VIII, mostly consisting of Drakh, Wurt and Streib, all of which were heading to the rim.[1]
Sometime prior to 2259, they invaded Minbari space, but were beaten back to their homeworld. The Minbari afterwards made the Streib "understand the depth of their mistake."
In 2259, they raided the shipping lanes in Sector 92, abducting dozens of individuals. After investigating reports of strange activity in the sector, John Sheridan along with a full escort from Delta Wing encountered a Streib vessel. All but one Starfury were destroyed outright, while Carlos Ramirez's fighter was disabled, forcing him to limp back to the station with a leaking reactor while Sheridan was forced to eject and was captured by the alien vessel. On board the Streib ship he was subject to experimentation and was forced to fight other prisoners, including Ta'Lon, with whom he later escaped after the EAS Agamemnon caught up with the ship at the Streib homeworld.[2]
In 2260 Galen landed on Z'ha'dum to find Streib among the workers toiling for their masters.[1]
Background
- Despite their physical similarity to the Shadow Surgeons, J. Michael Straczynski has stated that the Streib have no connection to either side fighting in the Second Shadow War.[3] However, Jeanne Cavelos's novel trilogy "The Passing of the Techno-Mages" firmly establishes the Streib as being in the service of the Shadows and working alongside the Drakh and Wurt on Z'ha'dum. They are, however, mentioned separately from the Shadow Surgeons, establishing them as separate races. They also look similar to the Vree, who are members of the League of Non-Aligned Worlds/Interstellar Alliance.
