Neil Gaiman/Sandman connection?
* The Gaim are named in homage to author Neil Gaiman as they bear a strong resemblance to the protagonist of his Sandman series.
First off I think we need an actual credible source that says that Gaim were actually named for Gaiman and second, if this is what the protagonist of the sandman series looks like, I hardly see how it bares any relation to the Gaim. A more likely candidate would be the old gas mask wearing DC Comics Sandman. Blind Wolf 11:12, May 17, 2010 (UTC)
- Gaiman's Sandman, typically when he enters a battle or confrontation, wears said gas mask: [[1]], [[2]]. This mask, much more so than that worn by the "old" Sandman, closely resembles those worn by the Gaim. Furthermore, it is not suprising that Gaiman would be referenced in the series: he did, after all, contribute to writing it (see season 5 episode "Day of the Dead"). If you're looking for a more "credible" source, here's an excerpt from the "Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5" website ([[3]]): "The masked alien is a Gaim, whose name is probably a reference to Neil Gaiman. The title character of Gaiman's "Sandman" -- one of JMS's favorite works -- has a mask of similar appearance." Hope that's adequate. (142.179.123.180 05:35, June 25, 2010 (UTC))
- I appreciate the effort, but I wouldn't say this was adequate. Having the people who run lurkers guide say the Gaim were "probably" named for Gaiman is just speculation on their part and not a confirmation. Indeed it's most likely the source of this supposed connection. Don't get me wrong, it "probably" is right, but without a citable confirmation we shouldn't be stating it as fact. - I can add that on the Day of the Dead: An Annotated Babylon 5 Script back cover, Neil Gaiman is pictured on set flanked by two Gaim. Circumstantial, I know. 75.73.8.37 23:33, May 15, 2019 (UTC)
