The Berlin Symphonic Film Orchestra is an orchestral ensemble founded by Christopher Franke in 1991.
It is responsible for performing the live orchestral sections used in Christopher Franke's scores for most of Babylon 5 (TV series), three of the four TNT-era Babylon 5 TV movies and Babylon 5: The Lost Tales.
Like many recording orchestras for film and television, the Berlin Symphonic Film Orchestra is a so-called "pick-up" ensemble, comprised of studio session musicians assembled on an ad-hoc basis. This is unlike a standing orchestra such as the London Symphony Orchestra or the Boston Pops, which employ an ongoing roster of musicians throughout the season.
