The Torvalus are one of the First Ones, who came to the Younger Races aid at the Battle of Coriana VI using their ship the Dark Knife.[1]

Biology[]

Appearing as large cilia-covered flatworms, the Torvalus are one of the few First Ones to not evolve beyond their physical forms. Their cilia allows them to absorb energy in the nearby environment for sustenance, and also act as highly acute sensory receptors and fine manipulators. The Torvalus are essentially immortal, and can freely exist in multiple environments including their ocean covered world of Torvalu and the vacuum of space. They are also highly psychic, with a primary focus on telekinesis and pyrokinesis over other common ESP skills, but they still possess more capability than even the most powerful young race telepaths.[2]

Overview[]

Due to their acute senses, the Torvalus are masters of stealth and espionage, constantly looking for ways to beat their competitors' detection technology, to the point of obsession. A lot of clout was derived from such public successes, and gambling on who could provide the most accurate solution to the most complex problems became a major sport for them. The gambling eventually became more important to the Torvalus than the problems themselves, as they enjoyed the challenge in besting themselves.

In their journey for cloaking technology, they discovered Hyperspace at a remarkably early point in their civilization, and were able to fill in a galactic niche at selling their spying abilities to the highest bidder. No buyer was below their standards, which allowed them to establish friendly relations with many lesser capable species. They still understood how only a few pieces of technology kept the First Ones above the other races, and thus none of the younger species could ever afford to buy the secrets to civilization-redefining technology, such as organic technology or Jump Drives from them.
