The Valen was the first attempt to blend Human and Minbari technology as a joint project developed by the Interstellar Alliance. It was the first and only ship of its design and did not go into full production.[1] It is thought this ship could have been an early, small scale test bed for the more ambitions Victory class destroyer.
The Valen briefly served as a diplomatic transport tasked with ferrying ISA officials. She was destroyed over Beta Durani 7 by the alien race known as The Hand while transporting a number of VIPs to a conference that was to take place at the colony. Shok-na Tannier stayed on board with his crew while buying enough time for the diplomats to get to the escape pods and be recovered by the Liandra. [2]
Presumably the Minbari would later take a more active role when designing it's replacement.
