Walter Koenig (b. 14 September 1936, Chicago, Illinois, USA) is an American actor. He played Alfred Bester in Babylon 5. He would have reprised his role in Crusade, but the series was canceled before production. His wife, Judy Levitt, appears as a Psi Cop in two episodes of the series.
Prior to creating the character of Bester, J. Michael Straczynski originally wrote the part of Knight Two with Walter specifically in mind. As it would happen, in early 1993 Koenig suffered a heart attack and would still be recovering from surgery when ("And the Sky Full of Stars") was due to start shooting later in September. Straczynski initially tried to have the shooting postponed to accommodate Koenig's recovery time but when this didn't pan out Straczynski instead promised to write another new character, which became Alfred Bester.[1]
Koenig is best known as Pavel Chekov in Star Trek: The Original Series and the first seven Star Trek movies.
